Homeschooling from your bookshelves? It's possible come see how!.

Time to get ready for the new school year!!! Unless you school year round like us.
Well I'm all for frugal!
Most of us homeschoolers have enough materials on hand to educate a small army...lol.
This summer go through your bookshelves and make 3 piles:

THROW AWAY
KEEP
SELL/GIVEAWAY

Throw Away Pile: The first pile is just plain old junk, stuff that is used up, scribbled on, torn up etc. Get RID OF IT!! Including that workbook you bought on Ebay that smells like nasty musty YUCK!!

Keep Pile: This is stuff that you can use, organize it by subject, I like to buy magazine holders from the Dollar Tree or use cereal boxes with the top and side cut out and some cute wrapping paper to cover them. They are very durable if you put some clear packing tape on the bottoms. Use these for booklets, workbooks and things like that. Put subjects on them and on free days or Mom is sick days, tell our son to go and pick out an activity and spend an hour working on it. It makes learning fun because he can pick what he wants to do. Jot down what you have and later on in the summer when you really start planning out the coming school year you can see what you have to work with.

The sell/giveaway/trade pile is for stuff that is still usable, but you don't need it anymore or it did not work for your child. I have gathered up enough stuff to sell that I was able to buy some new goodies at the homeschool convention that I might not have otherwise been able to afford. The giveaway items are things that are still in usable condition that you can bless another homeschool family with. PaperBackSwap is another great way to get rid of books you no longer need. Check them out to see how they work. Or read my blog post on how it works.

By looking through what you have, you can make a plan of action for your coming school year. I am betting that everyone has at least 1 full subject that they can teach this next school year without having to buy a thing. Take some time and get digging around, see what you can find to
THROW AWAY
KEEP
SELL/GIVEAWAY

Post on here to let us know what you find!

Hal & Melanie Young, Raising Real Men
Don't miss out on one of my favorite conference speakers, I've never had the privleged to meet Hal & Melanie Young, but I own their book Raising Real Men and I have a ton of their conference CD's.
Two topics that they will be bringing to us at the Schoolhouse EXPO will be "Making it through the battle for purity to courting his bride. Most purity resources these days focus on girls, but purity tends to be a much bigger problem for young men." And  "Getting Published and Getting It Launched – It doesn’t do any good to write a great book if no one ever knows about it. Learn how to get your book published and more important, get it known! Hal and Melanie Young, award-winning authors of Raising Real Men, share what they’ve learned about the book industry and how you can make or break the launch of your book."

Ray Comfort LivingWaters.com
"Ray Comfort is the co-host (with Kirk Cameron) of the award-winning television program “The Way of the Master,” which airs in 123 countries around the world. Ray is a best-selling author of more than 70 books. He and his wife, Sue, live in Southern California, where they have three grown children."
Dr. Jay Wile Author & Speaker
"Dr. Wile’s love of science is demonstrated by the many awards he has won for excellence in teaching and research. He has also presented numerous lectures on the topics of Nuclear Chemistry, Christian Apologetics, Homeschooling, and Creation vs. Evolution. He has published more than 30 articles on these subjects in nationally-recognized, peer-reviewed journals, and has 9 books to his credit, most of which belong to the award-winning “Exploring Creation with” series of junior-high and high-school science courses."

Todd Wilson The Familyman
"TODD WILSON, author of Help! I’m Married to a Homeschooling Mom and The Official Book of Homeschooling Cartoons, is a dad, writer, conference speaker, and former pastor. Todd’s humor and gut-honest realness have made him a favorite speaker at homeschool conventions across the country and a guest on Focus on the Family."

Andrew Pudewa
I've actually heard Andrew Pudewa do this talk at a homeschool convention, I bought the MP3 of it and listen to it each year before school starts so that I remember that my SON IS NORMAL! lol.

"Teaching Boys and Other Children Who Would Rather Make Forts All Day
Children like to do what they can do, they want to do what they think they can do, and they hate to do what they think they cannot do. If you want excited and enthusiastic children who learn well, you must understand these key laws of motivation, and focus on the essential requirement of relevancy. If it matters, children will learn it, and if it doesn’t, they won’t. This session will enlighten you with specific ways to find and create relevancy for children, even when they have no apparent interest."

Deborah Wuehler TOS
"Feeling depressed, discouraged, or defeated – before you even start school? Deborah Wuehler shares three vital things that are necessary to run and complete this homeschooling race: Prayer, Power, and Perseverance! Join in as Deborah shares the hindrances that weigh us down, and how to overcome them in victory."

And the winner is...................

Well first I must give you my disclaimer in detail on how the winner was picked  :O)    This is very technical so stick with me on this......lol.

First I painstakingly printed out the name of each person who entered (remember 1 entry per post).

Then I cut them each out and carefully folded them all the same way.

Then placed them in the secret Corelle ballot box bowl.

Then my adorable assistant picked out one name.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!

And the winner is.............

Drawing for the winner of the Hodgson Mills giveaway!!

Well, Friday has come and gone! lol......sorry about that. I've been running around to doctor appointments and things slipped through the cracks. So I shall have my son put the names in a bowl and will draw here in a few minutes. 1 name per post, up to 5x  :O)

Be back in a jiffy.

Giveaway!!!!

During our fall vacation break we traveled for a homeschool field trip and ended up getting a gluten free goodies bag from Hodgson Mill. We were familiar with them from when they use to be located in another state. So we decided to take a tour of the facility. They carry regular gluten items and also have a dedicated GF facility. I did not attend the tour due to the concern about all the flour in the air, one of the other ladies in our tour group is GF because it makes her feel better (also have a DD that has to be GF/CF) told me that she was glad that I did not go in since she said in the one plant you could taste the flour in your mouth (they were making pancake mix the day we were there.)

Front of the bag & products

Back side of the bag

I have a box of their Gluten Free Seasoned Coating Mix 10oz. (good to coat veggies, onion rings,) or a box of Gluten Free Sweet Yellow Cornbread Mix-12oz. or a Hodgson Mills reusable cloth grocery bag (it's huge, a double size of a paper grocery bag). Winners choice.
I just tried their pancake mix today and it was WONDERFUL!! I've used the cookie mix several times and love it too!  The prices on the website even with shipping are cheaper for me than buying at our local Walmart.
I don't get anything from Hodgson Mills for this giveaway, I just have some extra goodies from a gift bag that they gave to each person who took the tour. It was so nice that they gave me one too since I did not tour the plant, I stayed at the front office and chatted with the girls.

Now on to how to enter my giveaway. You must post on my blog and give me a tip to liven up my blog, I'm new at this and not sure what I need to do to make it more flashy  :O)  You may give me up to 5 tips (one per post) for 5 chances to win. Winner will be announced Friday November 11th.
