Easy Art Project

Here are some fun art ideas for you from a friend of mine that has taught art. Here is one she sent me. Easy First Day Art Project. For boys you could have them draw Medieval shields instead of the flowers. What a neat idea!

We start school this coming week, I am excited, nervous, thrilled and not fully prepared yet...lol. We are in the process of finishing up 4-H records and getting the club scrapbook put together. So lots of stuff to do this Labor Day weekend.

Have a good one!

What School Supply Item Are You Addicted To?

STICKY NOTES!!!
I must have them in all shapes and sizes,
not to mention all colors...lol.

LOL...this is just my secret stash in my school supplies, I've got sticky note pads in my car, date book, living room, media room, kitchen and dining room...lol.

I asked the child what school supplies we need for the school year, he says "NONE." I say "I think we need some sticky notes." (they are my weakness!!!). He yells out "With all the sticky notes we have, I think we are preparing for Sticky Note Y2K!" lol...Maybe we can just bypass my sticky note obsession and move on to the question at hand? "How on earth does the child know about Y2K?"

Does this make your heart ache?

My little Powder Monkey on the left, at a Civil War Re-Enactment.

I got this from a friend this week, made my heart ache.

"A note from Mrs.______, my son's new teacher in honor of next Monday, the first day of school :

'Twas the night before school started,
When all through the town,
The parents were cheering,
It was a riotous sound!
By eight, kids were washed
And tucked into bed...
When memories of homework
Filled them with dread.

New pencils, new folders, new notebooks, too!
New teachers, new friends...
Their anxiety grew!
The parents just giggled when
They learned of this fright
And shouted upstairs-
"Go to bed! It's a school night!"

I've heard a few of my son's friends complaining about the new teachers that they are going to have for school this year. I ask my son if he told his friends "Look at me, I've had the same teacher for 7 years! LOL." He just smiled and told me "NO!" The kids have teased him about starting back to school in July, but what those kids miss out on is our AWESOME fall break that we take to attend fall festivals, shopping trips to the Amish lands, Civil War Re-Enactment weekend, and our exciting time of going to see Dr. Ben Carson speak. Our classroom does not have 4 walls, our classroom is our God given world.

What excites you about this new year of homeschooling?

Back to school funny & our homeschool tradition

So glad that we homeschool and don't have to spend much on supplies. We just use the same stuff from last year. No one breaks our Crayons or steals our pencils in homeschool...lol
We have a tradition of buy something fun and new for the school year though. For me I usually pick out a cute pack of sticky notes (you know I have a passion for STICKY NOTES!) I blogged about my overstock of sticky notes. This year I got some Post-It Notes with a cute Pug dog on the front.
The teenager decided on a folder/notebook with a Pug on the front.

You would think that we have a thing for Pugs at our house  :O)

LOVE THIS!!

I just came across this and it looks really cool!!

I've been doing some home organization and de-cluttering this week, so I'm looking for ideas to use the space that I have been blessed with.
I know as homeschoolers our kids do not have lockers, but boy this could work really well in a small space with a closet. Hang up your school supplies and books, all hidden away in a closet!! It's affordable too. Around $25.00.

Comes in several different color choices and Amazon.com sell it. I'm an Amazon.com junkie! lol.......LOVE that company. It does have a lot of good reviews.
Thinking that if I come across some extra pocket $$$ I will have to get one of these.

Have a great week!

100 Gluten Free Lunch Ideas

We started school today and that got me thinking about lunches. We pack a lunch anytime we leave the house since it's hard to find corn free foods, gluten free is much easier now though, especially when you have great list from friends over at glutenfreeville.com.  Use this link to find 100 Gluten Free School Lunch Ideas.

These are also great ideas for adult on the go lunches! After looking at this list it helped spur some corn free ideas in my brain too. It's so easy to get into the same rut of eating the same stuff over and over again. I like to look around and see what is out there and make it corn free.

Had to get a little Star Wars in here for my son who is a big fan!

Post some lunch ideas that you frequent.

Enjoy your lunch!

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas!!!
Oh, wait it's only Christmas at my house......lol. UPS delivered our homeschooling books today. You would think it was Christmas morning around here. Our son is just begging to get into the box. I think I will wait for a rainy day before I let him open it. hehehehe.

Am I mean?

I just praise my Lord and Savior for the blessing that homeschooling has been and is to our family. Just seeing the love of learning that our son has now it's incredible.  There are not many "I don't want to go to school days" anymore. Life of course is no where near perfection, but God's word in the Bible does not promise perfection in our earthly lives.

We have more "What are we learning today" days and that is a blessing. Another one I like to hear is, "Can we do another Bible lesson?" I also take on questions such as "Why do we have to learn story problems?" You will have to tune in next time to hear the answer that I gave to that one.

We are spending some time this week packaging up personal hygiene bags for needy school children and then another day we will be passing those out, along with backpacks full of school supplies to needy children in our community.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Back to school day!

How is your back to school day going? We did school on and off during Christmas break since we like to take time off in February for cabin fever.

Our first day back starts with homeschool bowling, our son loves PE and bowling is a fine way to get it in.

Are you starting anything new and exciting this semester? We are going to finish up Latin and start on Proverbs People from The Learning Parent, love all the materials from the Boyer family. Click the link to see what they have going on. They are running a sale right now and a lot of items. They are Godly conference speakers and have 14 kids and started homeschooing back in 1980. Check them out!

Have a wonderful day back.
